JASPER -- Albert J. Wenzel, age 79, of Jasper, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
He was born on Nov. 3, 1925, at Jasper, Ind., to George and Frances (Buechlein) Wenzel. He married Betty Tormohlen on Jan. 9, 1947.
Albert Wenzel was a WWII Navy veteran, he served as a Radar Specialist on the LST Ship No. 1001 and retired from the Jasper Lumber Co., where he had worked for 45 years (mill room foreman). He also worked at the Evansville Speed Drome Race-Way for many years.
He is a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, VFW Post No. 673 life member and the Indiana Chapter of the LST Association. He was a avid fan of NASCAR, New York Yankees and IU.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Betty Tormohlen Wenzel; a son, Jim Wenzel of Jasper; 2 daughters, Janet Wenzel and Jeanette Wenzel, both of Jasper; three grandchildren, Abby, Jaymee and Tara; a sister, Ruth Henke of Ocala, Fla.; and a brother, Robert Wenzel of Ocala, Fla.
Preceding him in death besides his parents is a sister, Dorothy Merkley.
Funeral services for Albert Wenzel will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, in Holy Family Catholic Church, with entombment in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper, the VFW Post 673 in Jasper will conduct military graveside rites.
