Notes for Jan Lucaszen SCHOUTEN
They came to New Netherland on 17 February 1659 on the Dutch ship De Otter. Residing briefly at New Castle and then at Bergen, New Jersey, they finally settled behind Pearl Street in New Amsterdam. Jan Schouten operated the sloop Liberty carrying the wheat and flour and other goods to settlements along the Hudson. After he died, his wife Sara is found in the records as a butcher.
