Christian was in New Amsterdam by 1653. In 1655 he sailed with Peter Stuyvesant from New Amsterdam to the South River (Delaware) where they captured the Swedish settlements. He then began building a mill there. After his death, his widow and three sons immediately moved back to New Netherlands.
