Notes for Zacharias SICKELS
After finding his way to Holland, he went to Curacao and served in the military there. When Governor Stuyvesant visited that island, Zacharias returned with him and soon was attached to the garrison at Fort Orange. He remained in Albany after the surrender in 1664 and worked as a carpenter. In 1670 to1672, and 1681 to 1683 was town herder. He held the responsible place of rattel watch. He was also town cryer and keeper of the city gates, closing and locking them at night. When his sons moved to New York he followed them in 1693. In 1698 he was admitted as a freeman of New York and in 1702 was living in the East Ward.
