The Rev. Melvin R. Geffert, 83, of 2158 DuBay Drive, Mosinee, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.

He was born May 27, 1920, in Harvey, Ill., to the late Rudolf and Meta (Hackbarth) Geffert. He was married to Blanche Hutson on May 18, 1947, in Litchfield, Ill. She survives.

Melvin served in congregations in North Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Missouri and Indiana, where he retired in 1985. After retirement, he continued serving congregations in central and northern Wisconsin.

Survivors, besides his wife, Blanche, include two daughters, Margo Geffert, Mosinee, and Barbara (Bruce) Lefman, Independence, Mo.; a stepgrandson, Tim Lefman, Independence, Mo.; a brother, Harold (Kay) Geffert, Crawfordsville, Ind.; a sister, Eleanor (George) Shearing, New York; a sister-in-law, Margaret Ann Geffert, Laurinburg, N.C.; three nephews; and many more relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Geffert.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Junction City. The Rev. Timothy Roser will officiate. Burial will be in Mosinee Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee. Visitation will be again from 9 a.m. until time of services Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Melvin's name can be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Junction City, St. John Lutheran Church in Dancy, or Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.
