Work Fatality
Alfred L. Trafzer, Sr., 49 of 1933 Blanford Ave. SW, a pipefitter working on expansion of Muskegon Heights' water filtration plant, was fatally injured in a fall Thursday.
Trafzer, employed by Bosch Plumbing and Heating Co. Inc., of Grand Rapids, died of severe head injuries shortly after being admitted to Muskegon's Hackley Hospital.
Trafzer reportedly was standing between two manholes, guiding a piece of crane-borne pipe into one of the pits, when he stepped back, lost his balance and plunged 20 feet into one of the holes.
The body is at the Alt Mortuary.
Trafzer served as an enlisted man in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945-1947. He was a member of Plumbers and Steam Fitters Union local 70.
He is survived by his wife Helen; 2 sons, Alfred L. II, and David W.; 4 daughters, Misses Paula, Carla, Linda and Marcia; 2 sisters Mrs. Maurice (Jane) Pitcher and Mrs Florence Hanson; all of the Grand Rapids area.
Services will be at noon Saturday in Holy Name Church, with burial in Resurrection Cemetery.
