Obituary notes for Tod Owen DETRE
Tod Owen Detre, 87, of Lordstown passed away at his home 8:10 PM Monday April 2, 2012 from heart disease.
He was born Nov. 21, 1924 in Warren the son of the late Charles and Breta (Steinmetz) Detre.
Tod attended Warren schools and when he was fifteen he joined the US Navy. He served over four years as a shipfitter on the aircraft carrier US Lexington and was considered a "plank owner" because he was stationed on the ship before it was commissioned. He was a life member and former post commander of VFW Post 2662.
After the war, he returned to Warren and was employed as a mechanic and welder for the Warren City Street Dept. for 28 years.
He enjoyed fishing and loved spending summers with his family at his cottage in Canada on the French River.
His beloved wife of 58 years, Evelyn (Neiger) Detre whom he married Jan. 20, 1946 preceded him in death Sept.28, 2004. He also was preceded in death by 3 brothers George, Lee, and Richard.
Tod will be deeply missed by his son Edward O. Detre and wife Priscilla of Lordstown, 2 grandchildren, Dr. Laura Detre, PhD, and her husband Dr.Joseph Moser, PhD, of Ashland, VA, Tod O. Detre and wife Dr. Hoai-Nam "Gina" Hoang, MD, of China, Maine, and 3 great grandchildren, Veronica, Walter, and Peregrine.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday April 7, 2012 at Lane Family Funeral Homes-Roberts-Clark Chapel where friends will be received from 6-8 PM Friday. Pastor Steve Ritter will officiate. Interment will be in Lordstown Cemetery where military honors will be observed.
