Nan Barney Freyn 72, Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, August 21st. Nan shared her life with her husband and best friend, George E. Freyn, Jr.; her three children, Cynthia Freyn Long (Jeff husband), George E. Freyn III (wife Liz), S. Scott Freyn (wife Gina); six loving grandchildren; siblings, Stephen M. Barney (wife Lynne) of Long Grove, IL and Judith Barney Kless (husband Dennis) of Potomac, MD and surrounded herself with dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester F. Barney and Mildred (Alvis) Barney. She was a proud graduate of Shortridge High School, received a B.A. from Butler University in education where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. George and Nan recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 10th of this year. She was a part owner of Laura Martin, Inc. dress shop that opened its doors in 1945. With her love of people, Nan enjoyed a full philanthropic life and donated her time and talents to St. Margaret's Guild (Showhouse Chairman), Children's Museum Guild (Haunted House Chairman), Second Presbyterian Church (Bazaar Chairman), Indianapolis Alumnae of Kappa Kappa Gamma and "Mu" Club at Butler (Rush Advisor), Spring Mill School APT ("Fun Festival" Chairman). Nan's wishes were to have a private service with her family arranged by: Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Hospice, 8450 N. Payne Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268 or Wawasee Area Conservancy Fund, P.O Box 548, Syracuse, IN 46567 in her name.
