Phyllis J. Corna
LEETONIA - Phyllis J. Corna, 81, of 889 Cherry Valley Drive, Leetonia, Ohio, passed away at 8:59 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006, at the Salem Community Hospital following a brief illness.
Mrs. Corna was born on Sept. 5, 1924, in Salem, Ohio, the daughter of Thomas and Hagar Ferguson Ware.
Phyllis was a lifelong area resident and a homemaker. She was a member of the Columbiana Baptist Church where she had been a past Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Corna had also helped with a reading class at the Columbiana Christian School at the Columbiana Baptist Church. She was a past member of Rebecca Lodge of Leetonia, a past Girl Scout leader and she was a M.Y.F. leader at the Leetonia Methodist Church in past years.
Phyllis was preceded in death on Dec. 30, 1977, by her husband, Wilson B. Corna, whom she married May 7, 1943; by a stillborn sister, Carol Ware; and a grandson Kevin Kyser in 1987.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Kaye Barnard of Leetonia, Mrs. Sue Cole of Columbiana, Ms. Linda Kyser and her special friend Kim Hiscox of Prattville, Ala., and Diana Smith and her husband Richard of Salem, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at the Columbiana Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Clark officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery in Leetonia, Ohio.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at the Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the Columbiana Baptist Church. The family suggests that material tributes be made to the Columbiana Baptist Church Parking Lot Fund.
