Joseph Locke succumbs at 92
EAST HAVEN – Joseph L. Locke, 92, of 1270 North High St., a machinist at Eastern Screw Co. for 40 years before retiring 25 years ago, died Tuesday at a convalescent home in Wallingford after a long illness.
He was the husband of Josephine Coelle Locke.
Mr. Locke was born in New Haven, July 16, 1889, son of the late Thomas and Mary Jane Johns Locke, and resided in New Haven for most of his life before moving to East Haven three years ago.
He was a member of Gold Star Fathers and a communicant of Our Lady of Pompeii Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves six daughters, Mrs. Edward (Eunice) Hahn of Hamden, Mrs. Stephen (Mary) Szirbik and Mrs. Rocco (Virginia) Maturo , both of New Haven, Mrs. Patrick (Jane) O’Leary, Mrs. Robert (Frances) Noonan and Mrs. John (Ann) Torello, all of East Haven; four sons, Raymond Locke of Cleveland, Ohio, Ernest
Locke, Robert Locke and Warren Locke, all of New Haven; a brother, Thomas Locke of East Haven; 26 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Stanley Locke; a sister Ethel Werme; and three brothers, William, Earl and John Locke.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Friday morning at 9 at Our Lady of Pompeii Church, East Haven. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven. Memorial gifts may be made to Connecticut Hospice, Inc., 61 Burban Drive, Branford, 06405. W.S. Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, is in charge of arrangements.
