Mr Nathaniel Burt a respectable & worthy Father of the Town of Longmeadow was born AD 1636 and died Sept 29th 1720. This monument is erected to his Memory by the inhabitants of said Town as a token of gratitude for the donations in lands, made by him to them for the support of the Gospel and public Schools.… Erected by votes of the town passed 1796, also 1799 [Tablestone supported by 6 stone pillars. Underneath is a crude stone bearing the following inscription:] Here Lyeth the Body of Nathaniel Burt who Died Sept the 29 Ano 1720 Aged 84
