Notes for Kateřina KAŮBA
Kateřina Kaůba’s baptismal record says she is the daughter of Tomass Kaůba and Kateřina Swoboda. However, there was no Tomass Kaůba in Kbely during that time period. Later records concerning Kateřina Kaůba all indicate her father was Václav Kaůba. I used this assumption to follow Václav and find his baptism in 1766 and discovered that his father was Tomass. So the cleric recorder of Kateřina’s baptism must have erred and put her grandfather in instead of her father. He was the head of the house 44 in Kbely.

Kateřina first married Jan Böhm or Bem or Brm, depending on which record you look at, on 20 November 1815 in Kbely (recorded as Gbell in that era records). I have not located any children as of yet for this marriage, but it was rather short-lived. Apparently Jan died prior to her second marriage. I have not found a death recorded for Jan in Kbely or Vinoř.

Second, Kateřina married Josef Drozd, 1 September 1816 in Kbely. She is listed as the widow of Jan Bem, daughter of Václav Kaůba. Through pieces of records, it appears she had several children with Josef Drozd. It does not seem that any of them survive, but some I did not find a death record for. These include: Anna b. 1819, Josef b. 1823, Anna d. 1824 aged 3 yrs, Rosalia d. 1822 aged 5 years, Woytech b. 1825. Apparently Josef Drozd died prior to the illegitimate birth of Josef Kaůba in 1829, but I have found no death recorded for him either. Kateřina is listed as the widow of Drozda in Josef Kaůba’s birth.

Several months after the birth of Josef, Kateřina married Johann or Jan Link/Linek. She is listed as the widow of Josef Drozda. Johann adopted the illegitimate son, Josef Kaůba, so he became Josef Linek. Was he really the father and they didn’t marry right away for whatever reason?
