Airman Third Class Carl Dayton Dixon [sic] has just completed a furlough visiting his parents Mr. and Mrs. Melville Nixon 1546 Kinston Ave., prior to an assignment overseas with the United States Air Force in Tripoli, North Africa, it was announced by Sgt. Sid Hanna, local Air Force recruiter.

Nixon enlisted Jun 1, 1954. After an 11-week intensified course of basic training at Sampson Air Force Base, he attended an engine school at Ft. Belvoir, Va., graduating as a diesel engine mechanic.

Prior to joining the Air Force he was employed at Van Raale Co. Inc. and was a hot-rod racer in this area.
