Thelma Switzer To Wed Dr. Melburn Tonnemacher
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Switzer of 408 South Seventeenth street. announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Thelma Louise, to Dr. Melburn W. Tonnemacher of this city, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John H. Tonnemacher of Evansville, Ind.
The wedding will take place in the future.

On Thanksgiving morning, November 22, Miss Thelma Louise Switzer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Switzer, 408 South Seventeenth street, became the bride of Dr. Melburn W. Tonnemacher at a double ring ceremony solemnized in the rectory of St. Francis de Sales church. Rev. Albert J. Thompson read the marriage lines at 9 o’clock in the presence of relatives and friends.
The bridal party stood before an improvised altar of palms, ferns and white mums and lighted by white tapers in graduated holders. The nuptial music was presented by Miss LaVierge Blake, soprano, who sang “Because” (D’Hardelot) and “Always” (Berlin), accompanied by Miss Martha Catherine Moller. The Lohengrin processional was used and “Clair de Lune” (DeBussy) was played during the pledging of the vows.
Miss Mazie Switzer, sister of the bride was maid of honor, and Charles Tonnemacher was best man.
The bride, who entered with the groom, was gowned in white Skinner bridal satin made along princess lines with a short train. Lace formed a yoke in the bodice and extended in the panel clear to the bottom of the skirt in front. The long sleeves were of lace, pointed and finished with tiny buttons at the wrist. Small buttons also finished the lace yoke in the back.
The fingertip veil was attached to a wreath of orange blossoms and the bride carried a white prayer book topped with gardenias and showered with white satin ribbons.
Miss Switzer wore a formal gown of yellow net over taffeta. The gown featured a high neck with tight bodice and full skirt. She wore a head band with net attached, and carried a colonial bouquet of roses and carnations, tied with blue ribbons.
The bride’s mother wore a black dress with crystal buttons and a veiled fuchsia hat. Her corsage was fashioned of cream colored roses.
Mrs. Linus Roof greeted guests at the door of the rectory, and Harry Tonnemacher served as usher.
Immediately following the ceremony, the bride’s parents were hosts at a wedding breakfast served at their home, honoring the bridal party and members of the immediate families. The bride’s table was spread with a lace cloth and held a tiered wedding cake, topped with a miniature bridal couple.
Dr. and Mrs. Tonnemacher left for a southern honeymoon, with the bride wearing an ice blue dressmaker suit with brown accessories topped with a born fur coat, and orchid pinned to her shoulder.
Mrs. Tonnemacher is a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and Nazareth college in Nazareth, Ky. She is a member of Xi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and is an advisor for Alpha Chapter, Unit I of Nu Phi Mu.
Dr. Tonnemacher, who is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John H. Tonnemacher of Evansville, Ind., is a graduate of Central high school in that city, and of the National College of Drugless Physicians in Chicago, Ill. He has just received an honorable discharge after serving 39 months in the Navy, 23 months of which were spent in the southwest Pacific.
Dr. and Mrs. Tonnemacher plan to reside temporarily in Chicago, where he will take a refresher course for six months. He then plans to return to Paducah to reopen his office here.
Out-of-town guests for the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. William Stephens of Cincinnati, O. (nee Dorothy Switzer), Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tonnemacher, Miss Margaret Tonnemacheer, Mrs. Roy Below, Miss Juanita Spencer, Dr. and Mrs. James Moehlenkamp, and family all of Evansville, Ind.
