Obituary notes for Ruth Lydia JOHNSTONE
We are heartbroken, yet are so very blessed, knowing our beautiful mother is now resting in the arms of Jesus, and celebrating with her forever love, our dad, Robert Dreske, Sr.
Ruth Johnstone Dreske left this earth mid-morning today, Saturday, June 18, 2022. She was born over 95 years ago, on February 21, 1927. She and our father, were joined in marriage on June 2, 1951, and married on earth, 68 years. This year would have been 71 years.

I can imagine Daddy asking her, "What took you so long?" We are so blessed to have had our beloved parents so long, but selfishly wish they could remain with us, forever young. They were great parents, and my Mother was a modestly amazing woman. They took us on great vacations to wonderful destinations, later including their beloved grands in their travels. Mom loved Daddy to the moon and back, and lived a beautiful Christian life, devoted to serving God, her country and family.

Our mother loved every member of our family with her whole heart. My Dad's younger siblings were so incredibly special to her, and she doted on them while Daddy was overseas. Each cousin, niece, nephew, and their children loved Ruthie/Aunt Ruth. Almost all of her friends have passed, but for her two very best friends, Renee Buchanan and Patricia Bruce. She loved them with an equal passion. I know all who met her, loved her dearly.

After graduating from Bethesda School of Nursing, in 1948, she worked as an RN in several VA hospitals, as an Industrial nurse, and finally as a beloved obstetrical nurse, long before cell phones. She delivered many babies on her own at the long gone Fairview/Community Hospital in La Porte, Indiana. 💖

She served her church, Lindenwald Methodist, in many ways, in particular with the Alpha Circle. She lead the way to our following a Christian life with her gentle heart, and quiet strength.

Nothing quite rivaled the devotion she had for her children, nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alex, Carly, Jay, Spencer, Gavin, and Ava brought never-ending joy and happiness. She was the matriarch of our extended family, nurturing those relationships with caring phone calls and detailed letters and cards. 💖

Everyone who met her, loved her with equal enthusiasm, as she clearly brought love and light to any room or occasion. She inspired my love of God, children, scouting, music, gardening, cooking, and long talks about anything and everything. I will miss her so much, but I know we will all be together again. What a joyful day that will be.
