Notes for Jane HINDLE
Jane's birth as calculated using her age listed in her obituary would be 14 Aug 1829. The St. George's Church Register lists her christening as 13 September 1829. Jane's actual age was originally difficult to track because her birthdate is listed as ~1831 from the 1850 census, ~1833 from the 1860 census, ~1834 from the 1870 census. Jane's birth gives a preliminary date for the immigration of at least Elizabeth and the children, if not John.
Jane was the second wife of Peter Ackerman, taking his two sons into her care as well as raising her own daughter.
Jane died in 1871 and in 1880, Mary, her daughter with Peter Ackerman, was living with Elizabeth Hindle, the elder.

Sudden Death
Mrs. Jane Ackerman, widow of the late Peter W. Ackerman, and sister of Mr. John H. Hindle, died suddenly on Saturday night, shortly before eleven o’clock. She has been unwell for a year past, with a sort of bronchial affection, but on Saturday seems no worse than usual, and retired about ten o’clock, after spending the evening in cheerful converse with her sister and other members of the family. Soon after, her sister, who was upstairs, heard her calling, and going down found Jane walking the floor, with a kind of froth issuing from her mouth, while she exclaimed, “What agony I’m in,” repeatedly. Dr. Blundell was sent for, but by the time he arrived (within three-quarters of an hour after the first alarm,) she was dead. He gave it as his opinion that death resulted from a complication of bronchial and heart disease. Coroner Butterworth being notified, gave the usual burial permit, on the authority of the physician’s certificate. Deceased was forty years of age.
