Second Woman Dies From Eating Spinach
Chemical Analysis of Canned Food Partaken of Reveals Presence of Botulism Poison

Scottsbluff, Neb., April 29, (AP) The death of Mrs. Eugene Perigo, 60, in a hospital here last night, was the second fatality from spinach served at the Perigo home near here at dinner last Friday, Miss Lena Pfenning, 23, who was staying with Mrs. Perigo died in convulsions Saturday.

County authorities here yesterday received a report from state chemists at Lincoln which said positive traces of botulism poison had been found in the home canned green. Attendants said Mrs. Perigo’s death was due to poisoning and heart disease. Serum was rushed here by airplane from Denver in the hope of saving her.

Mrs. Perigo is survived by her husband. He was away at the time she was stricken.
