Notes for Jan Hendricksen SPIER
Johannes (AKA Jans or John) received land on Staten Island in 1674. He was one of the fourteen patentees of the Acquackanonk. In 1714 he was appointed to the committee which partitioned the common lands of Acquackanonk. He owned severals lots of land in this area. One of these he and his wife conveyed to their son, Hendrick in 1708. This farm was south of Crooks Avenue extending from the river westerly to a line somewhat west of Main Street. From him are descended most of the families of Spiers now residing around Paterson. In his will he names his children: Hendrick, Frans, Gerrtruy, Mardelena, Janetea, Rachal, Mary, Garretea, Lea and Jacob to share in his estate after the death of their mother, Maria. It was witnessed by Adrian Post, Abraham Van Winkle, and John Berry. His wife was the executrix of the will and so lived after him for a time. No record of her death has been found.
