Ralph E. Finke (08-27-2007)
Ralph E. Finke, 82 of Lexington, and formerly of Holland, Ind., passed away at 12:52 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, 2007 at the Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond.
Ralph was born on April 12, 1925 in Holland, Ind., to Elmer Daniel and Mary Louise (Henke) Finke. He married Lucille Eskridge of Dale, Ind. on June 22, 1947.
Ralph operated the Holland, Ind. Dairy Bar for five years. He worked thirteen and one half years for the Curtiss Candy Company. Later he worked for F & F Laboratories, Inc. in Chicago, Ill., later being transferred to Fullerton, Calif. as Western Sales Manager for eleven western states, including Hawaii and Alaska. He was with F & F Laboratories for eighteen and one half years. After leaving F & F Laboratories, he started his own candy brokerage business known as Finke and Hajduk Sales, Inc., with fifteen employees representing thirty-two different candy companies. After forty-three years in sales, Ralph retired in 1989.
Ralph was a member of the United Methodist Church in Holland, Ind. where he served on the Board and as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a United States Army veteran of WW II. He was Past Commander and a life member of the Holland Harmeyer American Legion Post #343. He was also a life member of the VFW Post #673 in Jasper, Ind. He was a member of the 29th Division Association, Inc, and the Jerome L. Day Post #48 in Westminster, Md. He was a charter member of the Battle of Normandy Foundation. He was a fifty+ member of the Dubois Masonic Lodge #520 A.F. and A.M. in Huntingburg, Ind., Scottish Rite, Valley of Evansville, Ind., and a fifty+ year member of the El Bekal Shrine Temple in Anaheim, Calif.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, David Ralph and Irene Finke of Fullerton, Calif.; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda Marie and Ed Wolfe of Richmond; and four grandchildren, Melissa Nicole Finke, Daniel David Finke, Kayla Joy Finke and Robert Ward.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Lucille, two grandchildren, Christopher Ray Wolfe and Jennifer Marie Wolfe, and a daughter-in-law, Debbie Lynn Finke, preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Holland, Ind. United Methodist Church or to the Holland Hermeyer American Legion Post #343.
Funeral services with burial will be in Indiana at a later date.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Thurman Funeral Home.
