Edith E. Kemper, 96, Huntingburg


Edith E. Kemper, 96, Huntingburg and Stendal, died at 3:15 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at Regency Place Health Center in Fort Wayne.

She was born at Stendal Feb. 7, 1903, to August and Rose (Martin) Sakel. She married Jesse H. Kemper Jan. 24, 1934, in Michigan City; and he died May 31, 1991.

Surviving is a daughter, Judith Maxwell of Fort Wayne.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Fronie Sakel and Clara Baumeister, and four brothers, Huber, Art, Elmo and Mauris Sakel.

Mrs. Kemper was a retired teacher at Stendal School and helped her husband operate Kemper’s Cafe in Stendal for many years. She was a columnist for the Stendal Community News in the Huntingburg Independent, Dubois County Herald and Pike County Dispatch for many years. She was a member of the Zoar United Methodist Church since 1915.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Nass and Son Funeral Home, Huntingburg. The Rev. Wayne Nichols will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Soar United Methodist Church.
