Miss Annie L. Norris
Seized with an attack of heart failure while returning from the Second Presbyterian Church last night, Miss Annie L. Norris, for many years a compositor on the Paterson Guardian died five minutes after she reached her home at 382 Ellison street.
Miss Norris was the daughter of James and Annie Hindle Norris and a sister of Nelson Norris, a fireman who died in 1902 following an operation. For the last twenty-five years she had made her home with Miss Annie Sweeney.
Miss Norris entered the Guardian office when C.M. and Anson Herrick were in control and when the management changed her services were still continued. Later she was employed in the composing room of The Press for about ten years. Before the linotype came into use Miss Norris was reputed to be the fastest woman compositor in the State. She was a member of Typographical Union No. 193 and of the Second Presbyterian Church where for many years she was associate superintendent to Miss Susan Contesse of the primary department of the Sunday school.
Surviving her are two aunts and an uncle. They are Mrs. Lina Westervelt of Paterson; Mrs. Jennie Norris, of Hartford, Conn; and Thomas Hindle, of East Orange. The funeral services will be held at her home tomorrow night at 8 o’clock, the Rev. Hugh B. MacCauley officiating. Interment in Cedar Lawn cemetery will be made on Wednesday morning.

MacCauley, of the Second Presbyterian Church, who took for his text, “Behold I Come Quickly.” The Rev. Mr. MacCauley spoke of Miss Norris’s life and her sudden death. William M. Kreamer, foreman of the composing room of the Paterson Guardian, where Miss Norris had been employed, sang “Abide With Me.” Mrs. Laura Lee Barbour sang “The Homeland,” and the two, “Holy Night, Peaceful Night.” The floral tributes were beautiful. The newspaper office sent two pieces and the primary department of the Second Presbyterian Church, where Miss Norris had been a teacher, sent a floral cross.
