Obituary
Mrs. Mary J. Zeluff
Mrs. Mary Josephine Zeluff died this morning in St. Joseph’s Hospital. She had been taken there a few days ago to prepare her for an operation indicated by her condition, but death ensued before it could be performed. Mrs. Zeluff was the widow of John B. Zeluff, who was with his father, the late John P. Zeluff, proprietor of the Passaic Hotel, about 30 years ago when that old hostelry was in its palmy days. John B., the son, met with a tragic death about 25 years ago, being thrown out of his sleigh by the horses that he drove running away on Main street near Broadway. Mrs. Zeluff was a sister of Mrs. Michael J. Morris, of Ward street, and a sister-in-law of Mrs. Edo I. Merselis, of Park avenue. The deceased had lived with Mr. and Mrs. Merselis for the past 18 years. She was born in Paterson and was a daughter of the late Josiah Calvin, who in the early days of Paterson was engaged in the manufacture of furniture and conducted a store on Van Houten street and later on Main street near Ellison. Mrs. Zeluff was taken ill about seven weeks ago. She was woman of kind and lovable disposition, and her death will be mourned by a large circle of friends. The funeral will take place from Mr. Merselis’ home at Park avenue and East Twenty-fourth street.
