Winifred McElhose is married to Howard Wittenburg
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward McElhose of North State rd., was the scene of a pretty wedding on Thanksgiving afternoon, when their daughter, Winifred, became the bride of Howard Wittenburg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wittenburg of Palatine. Rev. McCoy performed the five o’clock ceremony in the living room, decorated for the occasion with baskets of white chrysanthemums.
The bride wore for her wedding a street dress of light blue wool, her jewels a rhinestone necklace and bracelet, the gift of the groom. She carried a bride’s bouquet of white roses, white pom pons and orchids fashioned in the formed of a wedding ring, and she wore small white pom pons in her hair.
Her maid of honor was Miss Charlotte Kleinofen of the village, who wore a street dress of gold wool, and carried bronze chrysanthemums.
James Buckley served as best man for the groom.
Following the wedding service, the 58 guests were served a turkey dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McElhose, the uncle and aunt of the bride.
The mother of the bride wore for the wedding a gown of pink wool and a corsage of white pom pons and the mother of the groom wore a dark blue wool dress and a corsage of pink pom pons.
The bride is a grauate [sic] of the local high school with the class of ‘37 and since that time has been employed by the National Fire insurance co., of Chicago. The groom graduated from the Palatine high school with the class of ‘36 and is a tool and die maker in the Uptown Tool Works in Chicago.
The young couple took a short wedding trip and will be at home after December 1 at Rand and Chestnut road.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Foster and daughter Virginia of LaPorte, Ind., were out of town guests. Mrs. Foster, the bride’s grandmother of Maywood, Mrs. Kiel, the groom’s grandmother from Chicago and the groom’s grandfather, Mr. Wittenburg of Palatine, were all present at the wedding.
A recent party for the bride was given by Miss Virginia McElhose who entertained at a kitchen shower on Tuesday evening of last week.
