BISHOP , Rudolph G.
Of Dowling
Formerly of Galesburg and Big Pine Key, FL

Went to be with our Lord Monday, September 6, 2004 at his home surrounded by his family. Rudy, the son of Percy and Bessie (Gile) Bishop , was born November 15, 1925 in Allegan Co. He served with the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Crouter during WW II and was in Pearl Harbor. Upon his return from service he married the former Neva Wayne, who survives him. They moved to Galesburg, where Rudy and Neva owned and operated Bishop Electric, Inc. while raising their family. Following retirement in 1978 they began wintering in the Florida Keys and then moved to Big Pine Key, FL. Rudy was a very active volunteer in the communities in which he lived. He was a member of the Galesburg Planning Commission, Board of Directors of Kalamazoo Home Builders Assoc., the VFW and DAV, and was a past president of the Galesburg Lions Club. Rudy loved fishing, hunting and boating and possessed various sea-going and captain's licenses. He was also a past commander of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Big Pine Key, FL. Surviving in addition to his wife are 4 children, Debra (Perry) Smith of Newberry, MI, Jeffrey (Michele) Bishop of Boulder, CO, Susan McFarland of Hastings, MI, and Paul (Lindy) Bishop of Battle Creek, MI; 8 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Vivian (Stanley) Cousino of Flat Rock, MI, Ruth Healy of Gobles, MI, and Jeannine Page of Orange County, FL; and several nieces and nephews. The family will meet friends today from 5-7 p.m. at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Galesburg Chapel, 145 W. Battle Creek St. where Memorial Services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Whitney Brown officiating. The family suggests memorials to Barry Community Hospice.
