Carl O. Thusius, Delavan (1924 - 2008)

Carl O. Thusius, of Delavan, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at his home, 12 days short of his 84th birthday. He was born Sept. 30, 1924, in LaValle Township, Sauk Co., WI, the son of the Rev. Oscar and Elizabeth (Krohn) Thusius. The family moved to Delavan, WI, in 1929, when his father accepted a call to become the pastor of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He married the former Doreen Karges on Jan. 1, 1946, in Delavan. He owned and operated Thusius Standard Oil Station. He went on to be employed by the Borg Fabric Division as General Foreman. He and his wife later moved to Central Wisconsin, where he worked as a Real Estate and Insurance Broker, as well as being associated with the manufactured housing and recreational vehicle industry in the areas of sales, manufacturing and financing. He returned to Delavan and ended his working career as a manager for senior citizen rental complexes. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He enjoyed nature, traveling, camping, classic and antique cars, 1940s music, and most of all, his family.
Carl is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doreen, of Delavan; two daughters, Gail (Larry) Huisheere and Kim (Wayne) Schuenke, both of Darien; seven grandchildren: Ami (Ken) Rapp, Steven (Maria) Huisheere, Heather Huisheere, Jeffrey Huisheere, Justin (Tina) Schuenke, Amanda (Rick) Zur and Luke (Jody) Schuenke; four great-grandsons: Carson. Landon, Aidan & Jacob; one brother, Dolore Thusius of Kalamazoo, MI; two sisters-in-law, Arnola Thusius Harris and Lorraine Schroeder; as well as other family and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Thusius.
A Memorial service will be held at 11 a. m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Betzer Funeral Home, Delavan, is assisting the family.
