James A. Rooney, City Inspector, Dies in Hospital

James A. Rooney, city street department inspector for nearly 30 years, and navy veteran of World War I, died yesterday morning at 7:45 o’clock in St. Joseph’s Hospital, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Isabelle Hennion Rooney of 2 Madison Terrace.

Born in Paterson, he was a life-long resident of this city. Mr. Rooney was a member of St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, and its Holy Name Society, and an active member of the church’s cub scout pack. Mr. Rooney was the son of the late James and Mary Ackerman Rooney, pioneer residents of the Sandy Hill section of the city. He was also a member of Passiac County Council No. 3; of the New Jersey State Civil Service Association.

The funeral will be held Monday morning at 8 o’clock from the Scanlan Funeral Home, 421 Twelfth Avenue at East Twenty-eighth Street. A half hour later a Solemn High Requiem Mass will be offered in St. Joseph’s R.C. Church. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, and one son, Keven J. Rooney.
