Kenneth Hunt Tedford, Sr., Businessman,
Lifetime Fallon, Nev. resident Kenneth Hunt Tedford, Sr., 80, died June 10, 1998 at Tahoe Pacific Hospital following a short illness.

He was born October 25, 1917 to J.N. and May Hunt Tedford. He attended Fallon schools, graduating from Churchill County High School in 1934. He then graduated from the University of Nevada in 1938 with a degree in economics. He married Betty Kornmayer, a member of a pioneer Nevada family in 1940. She preceded him in death in 1991 after 51 years of marriage.

He was employed by the Standard Oil Company in Fallon, and then was promoted to the Sacramento division, where he worked for two years.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the South Pacific as a major and was decorated with the Bronze Star.

After the war he returned to Fallon to begin a business career that lasted over 50 years. His family-owned business, Tedford Tire and Auto Service, is still in operation today.

He was active in many civic affairs: member, past president and Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International; Churchill County Chamber of Commerce; the Reno Executive Club; Christian Business Men’s Committee; Greenhead Hunting Club; and Fallon Youth Baseball League. In addition he served on the board of directors of American Federal Savings and Loan, KNIS Christian radio station, Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission, the Churchill County School Board, and the Master’s College of Newhall, California. He was a member of Parkside Bible Fellowship and served as an elder for the last 45 years. His father, brother and son have all served as mayor of the City of Fallon.

Former Governor Paul Laxalt appointed him to the Nevada Highway Safety Commission, and former Senator Howard Cannon appointed him to the Judicial Selection Committee for Federal Judges and Bankruptcy Judges in Nevada. He also received numerous awards for business excellence from Arco and Goodyear.

Surviving are his wife, Lou; son and daughter-in-law, Ken, Jr. and Jennifer; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Rick Beach, all of Fallon; daughter and son-in-law Janis and Larry Festian, of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law, Trudy and John Nunn, of Reno, Nev., brother Jack, of Fallon; grandchildren Kenny III, Darcy, Dylan and Alexandria Tedford, Ricky and Michelle Beach, Caitlin Festian, Lindsey, Megan and John Nunn, Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial was at Masonic Memorial Gardens, Reno. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Parkside Bible Fellowship, Fallon.

Kenneth Hunt Tedford Sr., Fallon business owner, dies at 80


FALLON – Kenneth Hunt Tedford Sr., 80, died June 10, 1998 at Tahoe Pacific Hospital, Sparks.

He was born Oct. 25, 1917, to J.N. and May Hunt Tedford.

He married a member of a pioneer Nevada family, in 1940. His wife, Betty (Kornmayer), died in 1991.
