WAYNE F. SESSIONS
Wayne Franklin Sessions, 60, award winning watercolor artist died Sunday, July 29 at his home in Coral Gables.
Mr. Sessions was born in 1924 in San Francisco, California and was a graduate of the University of Florida School of architecture in 1950.
In World War II he was a carrier based naval aviator. When he came to Miami in 1949, he joined the architectural firm of Pancoast, Ferendino, Skeels and Burnham. He later worked with Walston and Company as a stock broker and financial analyst.
Watercolor painting began as an aid to his architectural renderings and became a successful full time career in 1974. His bright paintings, collages and graphics have won over 300 major awards including the Society of Four Arts, Coconut Grove, Las Olas and Key West. They hang in private collections of Southeast Bank, Flagler Federal and Norton Gallery.
Interior designers Henry End and Kenneth Hurd have chosen his art works for their clients. The new Miami Airport Hilton is decorated with Sessions’ paintings. In 1983, the Coconut Grove art show selected his sailboat scene for the annual poster.
Mr. Sessions was past president of the Florida Watercolor Society, the Miami Watercolor Society, Bachelor and MACH 1. He was an active member of Viscayans, Benedicts, Lowe and Metropolitan Museum and International Wine and Food Society.
Survivors include his widow, Wahneta Trotter Sessions, and three sons, Wayne, Jr., James Edward and William Trotter Sessions.
There were no formal services.
