Minnie Taylor Dies in Reno
Mrs. Minnie Branch Taylor, 84, member of a prominent Nevada pioneer family, died Saturday at a local rest home.

Mrs. Taylor was born March 4, 1881, in Fallon, the daughter of Henry Arnold and Rahel Becker Theelen. Her father had come across the plains to the West in 1860. He operated the St. Clair Station and toll bridge over the Carson River four miles west of Fallon.

The town of Fallon was named for her sister’s husband’s family. With her two sisters, Kate Fallon and Anne McLean, she saw the state grow from its infancy.

Her early schooling was in a one-room school near Fallon. After her father died, she attended the University of Nevada from 1896-1898 and then returned to Fallon.

She married Fred Branch, a veteran of the Spanish American War, in 1903. They operated a general store at Hazen, when the town was booming as the Reclamation Project for the Lahontan Valley was being built.

They later moved to Fallon where Mr. Branch was in the lumber business and did some ranching. In 1928, the family moved to Reno. Mr. Branch died in 1947.

She married Clyde Taylor, we-known civil engineer in Reno, in 1950. He is also deceased.

Mrs. Taylor was a member of the Reno Women’s Civic Club, the Spanish-American War Auxiliary, Kappa Alpha Theta Mothers’ Club, Alpha Tau Omega Mothers’ Club and Nevada’s Native Daughters.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Freda Lokke and Mrs. Aldene King both of Reno; two sons, Alfred T. and Emory C. Branch, also of Reno; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Taylor will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Ross-Burke Chapel. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
