Alfred Branch Dies in Reno
Well Known Resident of State Passes
Alfred F. Branch, 67, father of Reno’s city manager, Emory C. Branch, died in a local hospital Sunday following a lengthy illness.
He was well-known in this community, having lived here since 1928 when he moved to Reno from a ranch near Fallon. Born at Red Bluff, Calif., he first came to Nevada in 1895 when his family moved to Wadsworth.
The same year of their arrival, he enlisted in the army at the outbreak of the Spanish-American war. Receiving his discharge, he returned to Nevada and settled in Fallon. In 1903 he and Minnie G. Theeler [sic], a member of an early Churchill county family, were married.
For several years he was in the clothing business in Fallon, and then he and his wife went into agricultural activities when they took over operatoin [sic] of a 400-acre ranch near St. Clair station, four miles west of Fallon.
After moving to Reno, Mr. Branch became active in mining and survey work. He was associated with Clyde V. Taylor, local engineer, and has done survey work for Washoe county and the city of Reno.
The family resided at 1136 Buena Vista Ave. He was a member of the Thomas H. Barry camp of Spanish-American War Veterans.
Besides his son Emory, he is survived by his widow, Minnie Branch of Reno; two daughters, Mrs. Freda Lokke of Sparks, and Mrs. Aldene D. King of Fallon; another son, Alfred T. Branch of Reno; and three sisters, Mrs. George Davis of Auburn, Mrs. George LaForge of Sacramento and Lois Herbert of Sparks.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Ross-Burke Co. chapel with the Rev. John R. Ledger of the Trinity Episcopal church in charge. Spanish war veterans will also officiate. Burial will be in the Mountain View cemetery.
