Weddings

Velzy-Crawford
The Exley Methodist church in Wilson was the scene of a lovely wedding on Saturday at 4 o’clock, when Miss Virginia Crawford, daughter of Charles Crawford, became the bride of Gordon Velzy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orley Velzy of Lewiston. The ceremony, performed by Rev. John Ford Leffler, took place before the altar banked with baskets of mixed gladioli and centered with white candles in silver holders.

Miss Yvonne Duxbury rendered two selections, “I Love You Truly” and “The One Rose,” accompanied by Mr. Virginia Coe at the organ. The bridal party entered to the march “Lohengrin” played by Miss Coe.

The bride give in marriage by her father, wore a charming flop-length gown of white taffeta with a grief train and a fingertip veil of white tulle. She carried a bouquet of gardenias tied with white ribbon.

The matron of Honor, Mrs. George DeRemer of Niagara Falls, was attired in a gown of powder-blue silk jersey with a veiled tiara to match. She carried a bouquet of daffodils tied with yellow ribbon. The bridesmaids were the Misses Helen and Dorothy Bradly of Ransomville. Miss Helen Bradley wore a gown of pink silk jersey and Miss Dorothy Bradley wore a pastel green silk jersey, both with tiaras to match. They also carried bouquets of daffodils tied with yellow. Howard Kayner Jr., acted as best man and ushers were Gordon Hausman, Jack Moore, Kenneth Moss and Franklin Markel.

Mrs. Charles Crawford, mother of the bride, was attired in a pastel blue crepe dress and hat, with brown accessories. Her shoulder corsage was of white gardenias. Mrs. Velzy, mother of the groom, wore a dress of deep blue crepe with black accessories and she wore a corsage of mixed flowers.

A reception was held at the home of the bride immediately following the ceremony.

Guests were present from Niagara Falls, Lockport, Ransomville, Angola, New Jersey and Wilson.

Pre-nuptial affairs included: A variety shower by Miss Janice Housel and Mrs. George DeRemer of Niagara Falls, a kitchen shower by Misses Virginia Coe and Janet Carter of Wilson, a variety shower by Miss Parker and Miss Tully of Wilson; a personal and bathroom shower by Miss Eileen McCarthy of Niagara Falls and a shower by the Misses Helen and Dorothy Bradley of Ransomville, at which time Miss Crawford received a floor lamp and a toastmaster.
