OCEANSIDE - John Paul Jones III, 60, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002. Born Jan. 18, 1942, in Illinois, he lived in Oceanside for two months. He served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation ordnance man during the Vietnam War. He received the Navy Good Conduct medal (2nd award), the Vietnam Service medal (4th award), the National Defense medal, Vietnam Campaign medal and the Navy Unit Commendation medal. Mr. Jones is survived by his daughters and son-in-law Catherine and James E. Nuanez of Oceanside; Laura Jones of Oceanside and Becky Masciello of Buena Park; sisters Judi Franceschina of Amelia, Ohio, and Jerri Jones of Ensenada, Mexico; and grandchildren Andrea, Jessica, James Jr., Chris and Ryan. Visitation was held on Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A memorial service is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at 1905 Oceanside Blvd. with Mike Hubbard officiating. His cremains will be scattered at sea. The family suggests memorial donations to a veterans association of choice. Eternal Hills Mortuary is handling arrangements.
