LAWRENCE HACKWITH Lawrence Delbert Hackwith , 76, died March 5, 2007, in Las Vegas. Born April 27, 1930, in Mt. Clemens, Mich., he spent his childhood in Illinois and Washington before leaving home at a young age to join the U.S. Merchant Marines. He served in the Korean War, in the 7th Infantry, and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action; a Bronze Service Medal, a United Nations Service Medal and a Combat Infantry Badge. After being honorably discharged, he returned home and pursued a career as an ironworker. He was an active member of the International Association of Bridge Structural Ornamental and Reinforcing Ironworkers, Local 433, for over 30 years. He spent most of his adult life in Orange County, Calif., before retiring in 1989 and relocating to Las Vegas. Larry was an avid outdoorsman, spending many hours with his children on the beaches of Southern California, clamming, fishing, beachcombing and playing. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially the countless hours he spent in his garage workshop. Friends and family alike will miss his honesty, his patriotism and his unique outlook on life. Larry was predeceased by his mother Gertrude; father, Herman; brother John; and sister, Judy. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 31 years, Rose Marie; his daughter, Laura; sons, Bruce and Lawrence II, all of California; stepchildren, Tom, Jan, Rick and David; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A private family memorial service will be at Red Rock Canyon Sunday, March 11.
