Hiram was probably born in Ohio even following the tentative father Henry to Niagara, although the 1850 census says he was born in New York. It is unknown at this time when his father came to Ohio, but they probably came from New York. They lived on land in the Western Reserve. After Hiram married Anna Maria in Canfield, Ohio, they moved to Warren, Ohio where they resided at the time of the 1850 census.
Between 1852 when Mary was born and May of 1853 when Clara was born the family went to New York for some reason. Clara maintains in all of her adult censuses that she was born in New York. It is possible they were visiting Hiram’s parents or other relatives in Niagara County when Clara was born.
Sometime before 1857 they moved to Coldwater, Branch County, Michigan, which is where George was born. They were still there in 1860 for the census that year. Then I lost them for a time and was not able to find where they moved to. By finding that Emma married Thomas Davey in Cleveland in 1872, I was able to look in Cleveland in the 1870 census, which is where I located them. Daughter Mary died there of consumption in 1874. Hiram purchased the Woodland burial lot in 1874 in Cleveland for $40.00. They were living at 50 Cross St. at the time of the purchase and Mary’s death.
Wife Anna Maria died in Cleveland in 1876 and was buried in the plot with Mary. They were living at 72 Hill St. What happened to Hiram then I have not yet been able to determine. There is a Hiram Johnson living in 1880 with the Zlobitz family. He is listed as a boarder of 58 years of age. His two youngest children had moved to Chicago around 1878. Emma was still in Cleveland. If Hiram died in Cleveland, he was not buried with Mary and Anna as no record was found for him at the cemetery.
