Notes for Salina HINDLE
Salina's name has been variously spelled Selina, Celina, Slina, Sabina. It is probable she is the "Caroline" listed with Martin Westervelt, the butcher in 1880. Martin, her husband, has not yet been located in the 1870 census. He may have been in the local jail since it was noted in newspapers that “Honey” Westervelt had been picked up several times for being drunk and disorderly. Salina and her daughter Kate were living with Salina's sisters. Until receiving Civil War pension papers of Martin Westervelt's widow, Selina, I had assumed he died before 1870. There is new information in the census records showing Selina's daughter Kate and her family. They were living at 15 Weiss in Paterson.
In 1905 Selina Westervelt sued her daughter, Kate Youngs, for money in the amount of $6964.19 which is alleged she absconded with.
