Stephen Szirbik, 76
Services will be held Thursday for Stephen Szirbik, 76, of New Haven, who died Sunday at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Mary D. Szirbik.
A military funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. in Beecher & Bennett funeral home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial will in Beaverdale Memorial Park, Hamden.
Mr. Szirbik was born in New Haven, May 3, 1908, son of the late George and Elizabeth Farkus Szirbik, and was a longtime resident of New Have. He was a retired self-employed landscaper, and at one time worked for the former Westville Nurseries.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of the Post 71, American Legion , and Post 1684, VFW, West Haven.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Mary Anne Cameron of Wallingford; two sons, Floyd C. Smith of Naugatuck, and Kenneth A. Szirbik of Naples, Italy; six sisters, Margaret Jones of Guildfor, Alice Mulvey, Irene Bacon and Jean Clark, all of West Haven, Rose Harrison of North Haven and June Verab of Bethany; four brothers, George Szirbik of Woodbridge, Alexander Szirbik of Bethany, Jospeh Szirbik of Maine and William Szirbik of Litchfield; six grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
