Last Rites Extended D.E. Drinkwalter, Sr. Here On Sunday
Popular Resident Since 1917 Passed Away Early Last Thursday Morning
Burial at Maplewood
Funeral services for Delbert Drinkwalter, Sr., who died at 7 o’clock last Thursday morning at his home here, were held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon from the local Methodist Church with the Rev. L.J. Sailor, pastor, officiating. Interment was made in Maplewood Cemetery with Masonic ceremonies at the grave. He had been ill only a short time and was downtown the evening before his death to visit a local doctor.
Mr. Drinkwalter, who was 68 years of age, was born Dec. 3, 1871 in Wilson, N.Y., son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Drinkwalter. He spent his boyhood days there, later moving to Niagara Falls, N.Y., with his parents where he worked as a carpenter. He was married to Gertrude Schmuck, Oct. 8, 1901 in Buffalo, M.Y. They lived in Pittsburgh and in 1904 moved to Chicago. In 1916 he entered the civil service and in July, 1917, came to Rantoul, where he was employed as an instructor in the basic department of the Air Corps Technical School. He was retired from this position in April of 1938.
He joined the Masonic lodge here in April, 1918, and has been active isn’t this lodge since that time. He was also a member of the Maccabees.
He is survived by his wife and the following children: Delbert, Rantoul; Kenneth, at home, and Mrs. Gertrude Hackwith, Paxton; also the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Bird Gifford, Bangor, Mich.; Fred Drinkwalter, Bangor, Mich.; Chester Drinkwalter, San Francisco, Calif.; Miss Kate Drinkwalter, Chicago, and Mrs. Marion Johnson, Chicago.
Those from a distance attending the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Holmes, Mrs. Lena Bergman, George Hybl, Miss Kate Drinkwalter, Mrs. Marion Johnston and Vern Kennedy, of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Drinkwalter and Mrs. Bird Gifford, of Bangor, Mich.; Mrs. Ida Fish and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Fish, of Hoopeston; Mrs. Viola Flynn, Buffalo, N.Y.
