Obituary notes for George SAUER
Nevada State Journal, Reno, 3 Feb 1954, p. 10
Geo. Sauer, Whose Parents Came to Washoe Valley In ‘59, Dies at Home in Reno

George, widely known and longtime resident of Washoe county, died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. B. Harris, at 668 California Ave.
A native of Washoe Valley, he was born on May 1, 1868 and was 85 years old at the time of his death. His father and mother, both natives of Germany, met on their way from their homeland to Nevada, and were married. They settled on a ranch in Washoe Valley in 1859, when the area was still part of the Utah territory.
Mr. Sauer lived on the Sauer ranch in Washoe Valley until he was 20 and then for three years was foreman of the Winters ranch at Roop. He engaged in cattle ranching for several years and then joined other members of the Sauer family in conducting a meat market business in Reno.
He eventually bought this business and operated it under his own name for 25 years.
After he disposed of his market interests, Mr. Sauer was manager for Nevada Packing Co., for about five years and then he reentered the market business.
Was Road Supervisor
He became Washoe county road supervisor about 30 years ago, and retired after 24 years of service in this capacity.
The first Mt. Rose road was constructed by Mr. Sauer’s department when he headed the county road division.
Mr. Sauer had made his home on Del Monte Lane for many years.
Survivors Listed

He was the husband of Mrs. Nancy Paull Sauer of Reno; father of Mrs. Audrey C. Harris and William Jack Champion, both of Reno; and the brother of Mrs. Ida Smith of Reno, William F. Sauer of Franktown and the following preceded him in death: Louis Sauer, Frank J. Sauer, Mrs. Louise Zurfluh, Mrs. Kate Heydenreich [sic] and Mrs. Mary Kornmayer. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
