Mrs. K. Sauer Dies At Washoe

Mrs. Katherine Sauer, a resident of Washoe valley since 1858, died at her home there Saturday, Mrs. Sauer came to Washoe valley with her husband, Andrew Sauer, who died there ten years ago, during the days when Washoe City was a thriving community and was county seat of Washoe county.

Her husband owned a ranch there and was one of the prominent residents of the community, remaining there long after Washoe City had dwindled to a store and a postoffice. One of their sons conducted the store there up until a few months ago when it, too, was closed.

Mrs. Sauer was a native of Germany and was nearly eighty-one years old. Four daughters, Mrs. Mary Kornmayer, Mrs. Preston Smith, Mrs. Henry Heidenrich [sic], Mrs. Louis Zurflush [sic], and four sons, George, Louis, Frank and William, survive.

Pioneer Woman Dies at Washoe
In the death of Mrs. Katherine Sauer, which occurred at Washoe last Saturday, another pioneer of Nevada was removed from this earthly sphere. The deceased came to Washoe valley in 1858, which had since been her home and where she reared a family of eleven children, all of whom, with the exception of three, are living. She was a native of Germany and was 80 years of age. She is survived by four sons, George Sauer of Reno, William Sauer of Franktown and Frank and Louis Sauer of Washoe; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Kornmeyer and Mrs. Preston Smith of Reno, Mrs. Henry Heidenreich of Franktown and Mrs. Louis Zurfluh of Washoe; also three sisters, Mrs. R. Thelan of Fallon, Mrs. T. Tomamichel of Reno and Mrs. Fred Becker of Redwood City, Cal.

Funeral services will be held at the chapel of the Perkins-Gulling company tomorrow afternoon at 2 o”clock, Rev. Samuel Unsworth officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View.
