Sauer Funeral Rites Planned for Thursday,

Louis A. Sauer, a 71-year-old Washoe Valley resident and an uncle of Reno’s Mayor Francis R. Smith, died Monday in the Carson-Tahoe hospital.

Funeral services will be held at the home chapel of Ross-Burke co. at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. John T. Ledger of Trinity Episcopal church as clergyman. Burial will be in the Masonic section of the Mountain View cemetery.

Mr. Sauer was born in Washoe Valley on Aug. 6, 1880, educated in Reno, and was a butcher in Reno for some years.

Mr. Sauer was married to Neva Winters, daughter of Theodore Winters, on Oct. 16, 1909, in San Francisco, Calif. and moved to Washoe Valley shortly afterward. He retired about five years ago.

A member of the Reno Wheelmen’s club of Reno, Mr. Sauer rode with the Reno championship team for many years. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Neva Sauer of Washoe Valley; brothers and sisters, George Sauer and Mrs. Ida Smith of Reno and Will Sauer of Washoe Valley; nieces and nephews, Mr. Smith, Lloyd Smith of Ithaca, N.Y., Mrs. Helen Howard of Winnemuoca, Leo Sauer of Washoe Valley, Ruth Sauer of Washoe Valley, Mrs. Orville Aimes and Frances Honey and Edwin, Roy and Henry Heidenreich, all of Reno; Lillian Sanger of Carson, Martha Cliff of Washoe Valley; Forest Zurfluh and Mrs. Alice Lohse of Reno, Myra Ratay of Florida, Jean Fry of Reno, and Gertrude Leary of San Francisco, Calif.

Sauer; husband of Mrs. Neva Sauer of Washoe Valley; brother of Geroge Sauer of Reno, Will Sauer of Wahsoe Valley, Mrs. Ida Smith of Reno, uncle of Francis (Tank) Smith of Reno, Lloyd Smith of Ithaca, New York, Mrs. Helen Heward of Winnemucca, Nev., Leo Sauer of Washoe Valley, Ruth Sauer of Washoe Valley, Orville Aimes [sic], Frances Honey, Edwin, Roy and Henry Heidenreich, all of Reno. A native of Washoe Valley, Nevada.

Louis A. Sauer Stricken Monday
Member of a pioneer western Nevada family, Louis A. Sauer of Washoe Valley died yesterday in Carson City following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Sauer was born in Washoe Valley where his family was among the early settlers and was 72 years of age. He was educated in Reno schools and for the time was a butcher here.

On October 16, 1909, he married Neva Winters, daughter of Sen. Theodore Winters, in San Francisco, and the couple returned to Washoe Valley to reside. He engaged in ranching there until his retirement about five years ago.

Mrs. Sauer, also a member of a pioneer Nevada family, survives. The couple resided in the Winters mansion in Washoe Valley, birth place of Mrs. Sauer.

Mr. Sauer was the brother of George Sauer of Reno, Will Sauer of Washoe Valley and Mrs. Ida Smith of Reno. He was the uncle of Mayor Francis Smith of Reno, Lloyd Smith of Ithica [sic], N.Y., Mrs. Helen Heward of Winnemucca, Leo Sauer of Washoe Valley, Ruth Sauer of Washoe Valley and Orville Aimes [sic], Frances Honey, Edwin, Roy and Henry Heidenreich all of Reno.

Funeral arrangements are to announced by the Ross-Burke Co.
