Mrs. Neva Sauer Taken by Death
Well-Known Resident Was 81 Years Old
Mrs. Neva Winters Sauer, member of a pioneer Western family and life-long resident of Washoe Valley, died yesterday afternoon at the family home in the valley following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Sauer, who was 81 years of age, died in the home in which she was born March 2, 1872. She was the last surviving child of the late Sen. and Mrs. Theodore Winters, pioneer residents of Nevada and California.
Sen. Winters was an avid horseman and his thoroughbred stock was at one time the pride of the West. His colors were carried on all major tracks, both in the West and in the East. Mrs. Sauer was also a horse enthusiast. Winters, Calif. and Winters St. in Reno were both named for the family.
Mrs. Sauer was the widow of the late Lewis [sic] A. Sauer, member of another pioneer Washoe Valley family. She was the aunt of Miss Thais Longabaugh of Reno, Edward Longabaugh of Portola, Mrs. Margaret Regan of San Francisco, Walter Winters of Sacramento, Mrs. Leonard Elwoods of Bakersfield, Calif. and the great aunt of Mrs. Edna Stillwell and Mrs. Theodora Mortensen, both of Graegle, Calif., Mrs. Ethel Giffey of Carlin and Edward Longabough of Portola, Calif.
Funeral arrangements are to be announced by the Ross-Burke Co.
