GRIM REAPER
Mrs. Augusta Niemeier
Mrs. Augusta Glick Niemeier, mother of Mayor C.A. Niemeier of this city, died at 9 o’clock last night at her home in Evansville, 513 south Garvin street, after a prolonged illness. She was 77 years old.
The funeral will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon at the Evansville Fourth Street Methodist church. Burial will be in Locust Hill cemetery.
Surviving are the husband, Henry A. Niemeier; three sons, Charles A., John W., of Whittier, Calif., and Fred, of Chicago; one daughter, Mrs. Arthur Patton, of St. Louis; three sisters, Mrs. Rosa Stroebel, Mrs. Mary Kappler and Mrs. Louisa Keck, all of Evansville; two grandchildren, Helen and Mary Niemeier, the former of Princeton, the latter of Chicago.
Mrs. Niemeier did not live to see her son, John, who was speeding east from California as fast as trains would bring him. He arrived in Evnasville this morning and was told the sad news as he stepped from the train.
Mrs. Niemeier and her husband both came to this country from Germany when fifteen years old, Mrs. Niemeier having been born August 1, 1845. She had lived in Evansville 62 years and had been married 56 years.
The deceased was an estimable Christian woman. Since she came to Evansville as a girl, she had been a member of the Fourth Street Methodist church. During her entire life she had been thoughtful for others and even in her last days was solititious for those about her fearing they would overtax their strength as they sought to give her every comfort.
