Charles A. Niemeier Former Mayor Of Princeton, Dies; Rites Thursday
Services Will Be Here; Burial Is Arranged At Evansville
Charles A. Niemeier, age 65, mayor of Princeton from 1922 until 1926, and former prominent merchant of Princeton, died at the Gibson county infirmary Monday afternoon after an illness of several months.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 9 o’clock at the Pfohl funeral home in charge of D.L.C. Jeffrey with burial in Locust Hill cemetery in Evansville. The body is at the Pfohl funeral home where friends may call.
Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Helen Howell of Evansville.
Before entering politics, Mr. Niemeier successfully operated a chain of grocery stores in Princeton for several years. He was mayor at the time of the tornado in 1925 and was active in the rehabilitation program which followed. He contributed much to the success of the G.A.R. state encampment in June of that year, by arranging a surprise as a climax to the convention by having an army dirigible drop flowers on marching veterans.
For many years the Niemeier family maintain their residence in east Monroe street.
