Martin Fink was born at Camfield [sic], Ohio, on the 9th day of April, 1818,, and died at his home in this city on the 10th day of October, 1888. Aged 70 years, 6 months and 1 day. Funeral services were held at family’s residence, on Montgomery street, by N.H. Geiselman. Deceased was the father of six sons and five daughters, nine of which survive his death. He emigrated to this state on the 15th of May, 1856 and settled down in what is now known as Woodland, in St. Joseph County where he started the first store and sawmill in that wild strip of country, and in later years settled down in this city and again embarked in the mercantile business, which he followed until old age drove him to lead a retired life. He leaves a wide scope of friends who mourn his loss.
