James "Jim" Johnson Young, 78, Mt. Vernon, Ind., died Thursday, June 5, 2014, at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

He was born Jan. 12, 1936, in Michigan City, a son of Elmer and Virginia (Johnson) Young, who preceded him in death.

On Sept. 23, 1959, in Chesterton, he married Rochelle "Shelly" Ann (Cincoski), who survives in Mt. Vernon.

He is also survived by three children, Stacy Kehrer and husband Mike of Woodlawn, Tony Young and wife Denise of Bonnie, and Rochelle Bond and husband James of Mt. Vernon; a brother, Walt Young of Cottonwood, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, Darrell Kehrer, Chad Kehrer and wife Erika, Adam Skortz and wife Arizona, Brittany Loman and husband Shannon, Travis Bond, Cameron Young, Shane Bond, Quinton Kehrer and Derek Kehrer; and eight great-grandchildren, Jacie Kehrer, Lane Kehrer, Bennett Banks, Parker Loman, Avalynn Loman, Josyah, Addy and Kai.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Young and Eddie Young.

James was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Salem. He formerly attended the Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon.

He worked as an operator in the oil fields of Hobbs, N.M., and southern Illinois.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, and enjoyed spending time watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the Woodlawn Cardinals.

Funeral services, Pastor Doug Meyer officiating, are scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 141 in Mt. Vernon.

Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the James Young family payable to Shelly Young and will be accepted at the funeral home.
