Mrs. Augustus T. Sears, one of the well-known women of Oak Park and a leader in the Eastern Star of Oak Park and the state died last Saturday after a short illness at her home, 542 South Elmwood.
Funeral services took place on Tuesday afternoon in the hall of Victory chapter of the Eastern Star at Circle Masonic temple, the ceremonies in charge of Harry S. Cole, past worthy grand patron of the society. Interment was at Forest Home.
The pall bearers were Messers Ralph M. Newcomb, Burt W. Crissey, Charles H. Hertel, John C. Dreschsel, Herbert S. Nelson and Joseph Winkler.
Mr. and Mrs. Sears came to Oak Park thirty years ago and during the last quarter of a century lived at 542 South Elmwood. She was a past worthy matron of Circle chapter, a charter member of Victory chapter, past worthy high priestess of the White Shrine and she held offices in the grand lodge of the Eastern Star, among them that of grand lecturer.
The surviving members of her family are Mr. Sears, their son Burton H. Sears, and on grandchild, Barbara Sears. The family is sustained in its ordeal by expressions of sympathy and tributes to her life from many quarters. Floral tributes were numerous and magnificent in color and fragrance.

Mrs. Ida Sears, wife of Mr. A.T. Sears passed away suddenly Saturday evening, May 30, at her home 542 South Elmwood avenue as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage.
News of her sudden death spread rapidly through Oak Park especially in the southern part where she had lived during her twenty-eight years of residence here, bringing sorrow into many groups and homes. Mrs. Sears was prominent in the Order of the Eastern Star being a past Matron of Circle chapter, a charter member of Victory chapter, past Grand Representative of Iowa and past Gran Martha of the Grand Chapter O.E.S. of Illinois. She was also a past Worthy High Priestess of Oak Park White Shrine, of Jerusalem.
Mrs. Sears was born in Chicago, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry H. Tegardine. She was of the Baptist faith. The home where she died had been the family home for twenty-four years. She loved flowers and her garden where she spent many hours was one of the beauty spots of the neighborhood.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Circle Masonic Temple. Friends and neighbors filled the auditorium and overflowed into an adjourning room where loud speakers carried the service. The casket rested amid banks of flowers, an expression of love and friendship from a host of friends.
Harry Scroggins was at the organ and Mrs. Marie Lohman sang, “Heaven is My Home,” “City Four Square” and “Shadows.” The Eastern Start service was given by the officers of Victory chapter. Harry S. Cole, past Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter O.E.S. of Illinois gave the memorial address paying a beautiful tribute to Mrs. Sears’ life. All who shared in the services were close friends of Mrs. Sears. Interment was at Forest Home.
Surviving Mrs. Sears are her husband, A.T. Sears, one son, Burton H. Sears, a grand daughter Barbara Ann, all of Oak Park and one brother, Lester Tegardine.
