Obituary notes for John Jacob BECKER

Dust to Dust
J.J. Becker Solves the Dark Problem and is Now no More.
The Angel of Death visited the home of J.J. Becker at 12:40 today. Surrounded by all those he held most dear Jake Becker passed to that realm beyond, from whose bourne no traveller returns. His demise was painless.
J.J. Becker was perhaps one of the best known men in Washoe county. Ever since the town was established he has taken an active part in its make-up, both from a financial and political standpoint. Mr. Becker was a man of few words – a man that looked before he leaped – consequently, he acquired enemies as well as friends, but his friends largely predominated.
Mr. Becker was born in Klingen, by Sandau [sic -Landau], Germany, and was 55 years of age. He leaves a wife, two sons and three daughters to mourn his loss.
The funeral will take place from the family residence Thursday afternoon, at 2 o’clock.

Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust – Ceremonies This Afternoon
All that was mortal of the late J.J. Becker, whose familiar face has been seen in Reno since 1868, was this afternoon consigned to the tender care of Mother Earth. Rev. Samuel Unsworth of Trinity Church officiated. The solemn ceremony of the Odd Fellows, of which deceased was an honored member, was gone through with under the auspices of the Grand Lodge of Odd Fellows, with Noble Grand S. Jacobs at the head of the order. Amity Lodge, No. 8, Knights of Pythias, acted as escort. The ceremonies were impressive and the funeral very largely attended, all going to show in what high esteem J.J. Becker was held in the community, and western Nevada. Many of the Odd Fellow grand officers were in attendance. May his sleep be undisturbed, and may God in his goodness soften the blow for the lacerated hearts left to mourn a good husband, kind father and worthy citizen.

Death, The Victor
The Spirit of J.J. Becker Has Crossed the Dark River
Jacob J. Becker, an old-time, well-known and highly appreciated citizen of Reno, died at 12:30 yesterday afternoon.
He came to this city when it was but a struggling village, and identified himself with its interests. He was a man who sought no prominence in municipal matters, but in a quiet manner aided its causes.
Pneumonia was the cause of his death. His illness was less than a week, but from the first his case was hopeless.
Mr. Becker was born in Klingen, Germany. He was aged 55 years and 28 days. The funeral will take place Thursday afternoon from his late residence on Third street. Friends and acquaintances are invited to attend.
